A Doncaster teenager has been tipped to move onto bigger - and also much heavier - things after becoming a British weightlifting champion.

Fraer Morrow, from Bessacarr, recently won the women’s 53kg category at 2016 Cybex British Weight Lifting & Para-Powerlifting Championships in only her second ever GB competition.

The 17-year-old also smashed the existing under-23 record in the clean and jerk category in the process with a huge lift of 90kg.

She is now in training for the European Championships both locally at Danum CrossFit Club in Balby and also at Loughborough after catching the eye of Great Britain’s coaching team.

The former gymnast’s coaches in Doncaster say she has the ability to go on and break all of the existing records in the 53kg category.

Morrow secured her first senior title with lifts of 68kg (snatch) and 90kg (clean and jerk) to record a winning total of 158kg.

As runner up at the 2016 Exertrain English Championships, Morrow bettered all three results from January’s competition by lifting 4kg more in both lifts to beat her English Championships’ total by 8kg.

Coaches Joseph Mulhern and Peter Tuczemskyi, of Danum CrossFit Club, said in a joint statement: “Fraer came to us a few years ago with her mum Tracey, with a view to doing something different after being competitive in gymnastics for a number of years.

“It was obvious from the start that we were dealing with a very talented athlete, she was easy to coach and listened to advice when given.

“Within a year she won the teen gauntlet which was a national Crossfit competition and placed fourth in Europe in the Crossfit open teen division.

“It became apparent quite quickly that she was an exceptional weightlifter and after winning a weightlifting competition at Crossfit Mansfield she was asked to go to train at Loughborough by Dave Sawyer, one of the Great Britain coaches.
